South Africa election: What time do polls close today? When does counting start? When can we expect results to be announced?
Polling stations were opened at 7am and will close at 9pm local time.
All voters who are in the queue by 9pm will be allowed to vote. Ballot counting will start immediately after voting ends.
We can expect the official results to start streaming in by the time South Africa wakes up tomorrow morning.
The IEC’s Kate Bapela says by 6 am on Thursday morning they hope to have verified around 30% of the general election results. Live official results updates will continue throughout tomorrow.
Most political parties will know roughly how many votes they have by midnight today
