Latest: Another retired judge ‘top war vet’ dies

Retired High Court judge and former Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chairperson Justice Simpson Mutambanengwe has died. He was 87.

He died early today (Thursday) in Windhoek, Namibia.

Secretary for the Judicial Service Commission Justice Rita Makarau confirmed to ZBC News the passing on of Justice Mutambanengwe saying as the judiciary they are saddened by his passing on, coming shortly after the death of Retired Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku.

Justice Makarau expressed her sincere condolences to the Mutambanengwe family at this time of bereavement.

His body will be repatriated from Namibia to Zimbabwe for burial.

Justice Mutambanengwe was born in 1930 and participated in the liberation struggle before he served as a judge of the superior courts in Zimbabwe and Namibia.
