Kwekwe pupil dies in road accident on Gokwe highway

Pupils at Rio Tinto Zhombe High in Kwekwe were involved in a tragic accident along Kwekwe-Gokwe highway while going for sporting activities a day before yesterday, the accident claimed one life.

The school pupils, who were bound for Gokwe, met the fate about 50km away from Kwekwe when a hired Coaster they were travelling with burst a tyre and the driver tried to avoid oncoming traffic resulting in the kombi to overturn several times.

However, eyewitnesses have it that the driver was not speeding leading to the Coaster to land safely, unfortunately one pupil was thrown out of the vehicle, sustained serious injuries and died upon admission at a local hospital.  

Meanwhile, a Kwekwe commuter omnibus overturned yesterday killing at least three people on spot near Gweru tollgate, 16 others are still battling for their lives at a local hospital.

The accident occurred at about 2 pm, the Kombi driver is reported to have been speeding and failed to negotiate a curve thereby swerving and the vehicle overturned and rolled several times before plunging over a small bridge and landing on its top.

Midlands Acting Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende speaking to the press confirmed the accident.

Mukwende urged motorists to abide with road regulations and avoid speeding to save lives. zimnews
