A Kwekwe man who broke into a house, stole property worth $4 600 and stoned two police officers in the course of his arrest has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
Richard Elton Nyasha of Mbizo 17 Extension appeared before Gweru Magistrate Musaiona Shotgame facing four counts one of unlawful entry, one of theft, one count of robbery and one of assaulting a police officer.
Nyasha was sentenced against his own plea to the four counts and was slapped with 15 years’ imprisonment.
He will however serve an effective 12 years jail term as Magistrate suspended three years on condition of good behavior.
It is reported that on count one on January 22 Nyasha went to Raymond Nyoka’s house in Southdowns, Gweru
He entered into the kitchen door and used an unknown object to force open the door.
On count two Nyasha entered the house, he preceded to the lounge room stole a 55 inch Samsung curved television which was on the television stand.
It is also said that Nyasha took the television outside the house before he returned and stole a Samsung tablet which was on a charger in another room making it count three.
Prosecuting, Pearson Muringani told the court that on count four, on February 15 two police officers proceeded to the complainant’s house in Kwekwe to arrest him.
“When the police officers introduced themselves to Nyasha, he fled from the scene. The police officers gave chase but the accused person threw some stones at them, prompting detectives to fire warning shots in the air but the accused did not take heed. The detectives caught up with the accused person who violently resisted arrest and started to assault them with clenched fists,” said Muringani
The value of stolen property is $4 600 and everything was recovered.
