Kadoma woman wrongly convicted

Harare: The High Court has set aside a judgement in which a Kadoma woman Isata Mukova was convicted of stock theft involving 30 herds of cattle.

Kadoma magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba had sentenced Mukova to nine years imprisonment.

Mukova lodged her appeal at the High Court represented by Advocate Thabani Mpofu who highlighted a number of irregularities in the judgement.

The High Court ruled that the magistrate misdirected himself by convicting Mukova and sentencing her to nine years.

It has been established that the two entered into a business transaction in which Sheila Shuro who was the complaint was mandated to manage some farm operations at Mukova’s farm while she was outside the country.

Upon her return, Mukova found that Shuro had bought 30 herds of cattle using farm proceeds.

Mukova then sold the cattle and Shuro filed a report of stock theft arguing the former was not entitled to the cattle. zbc
