Zimbabwe-born former Zambian President Rupiah Banda has died.
He was 85.
Banda was instrumental in the power transition last year after incumbent Edgar Lungu lost to opposition challenger Hichilema Hakainde.
Banda was born in Gwanda, Matabeleland South.
Banda was Zambia’s fourth president from 2008 to 2011.
He announced that he was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2020 and was on treatment.
