Two journalists with Alpha Media Holdings- Blessed Mhlanga and Chengeto Chidi- are set to appear before a Chitungwiza magistrate this Thursday for continuation of their case in which they are being accused of taking pictures and recording video footages while voting was in progress during the March 26 by-elections.
The two are being represented by Tawanda Muchineripi of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) and Jeremiah Bamu of the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA-Zimbabwe).
While writing on Twitter, the ZLHR said:
“Trial of 2 journalists @ChidiChengeto & @bbmhlanga continues today at Chitungwiza Magistrates Court before Magistrate Matova.
“The 2 are answering to charges of contravening Section 25(a) as read with Section 30 of Electoral Regulations SI 21 of 2005& disorderly conduct in a polling station as defined in Section 89(2) of Electoral Act. Prosecutors accuse Chidi&Mhlanga of taking pics/video footage at a polling station while voting was in progress during March 26 by-elections in Chitungwiza without approval of @ZECzim. They are represented by @TapiwaMuchiner of @ZLHRLawyers & @bamujm of @misazimbabwe“.
