Jonathan Moyo Worried

The government is working to ensure the construction of all the 319 homesteads for Tsholotsho flood victims is completed before the onset of the rainy season.

This came out after a tour by the Tsholotsho North legislator, Professor Jonathan Moyo at Tshino and Esawudweni villages to monitor the progress.

The construction of the homes is way behind schedule and the outstanding building material and manpower required for the project was only released 10 days ago.

The building material is sometimes offloaded by the highway roadside, leaving locals with a mammoth task of moving the material to the various construction sites.

Professor Moyo expressed concern that the targets have not been met, adding that any further delays will put the flood victims in a worse off situation, if the rains start earlier than anticipated.

“It turns out that what they need is, each site needs at least three tractors with trailors and water bowsers. Each site needs at least 20 000 litres of water and that water is not available here on either site, so they need to find an alternative source and they can get water at the Gwayi river and this is where they will get the water,” he said.

Professor Moyo also donated food hampers to the locals who expressed gratitude for the kind gesture.

The construction includes additional classroom blocks at Tshino Primary School as well as the homesteads which are at various stages.

A piped water system is already in use and villagers have requested for additional pipes that will allow them to pump water for livestock. zbc
