Jonathan Moyo appears in court over Zimdef money scandal

Higher Education Minister Jonathan Moyo will have his case decided by the The Constitutional Court today, Wednesday, 8th of July.

Moyo is challenging the constitutional validity of arrests by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).

The challenge follows attempts by the anti-graft body to arrest Professor Moyo on allegations of swindling ZIMDEF of approximately US$500 000.

ZACC also attempted to arrest Professor Moyo’s deputy in the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Dr Godfrey Gandawa, ZIMDEF boss Fredrick Mandizvidza and ZIMDEF Finance Director Nicholas Mapute, when it summoned them sometime last year over the ZIMDEF saga.

Professor Moyo was spared from arrest after he lodged an urgent application seeking the Constitutional Court’s intervention and an order on the validity of arrests by ZACC.

Moyo believes he is a victim of succetionists and Gukurahundi killers who want to ruin his political career for selfish reasons.

Lacoste faction leaders have been fingered as the main instigators of the arrests.
