Internet problem render ZESA electricity token vending system dysfunctional

Some Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority -ZESA- customers were left in the dark yesterday after its system went down due to internet connectivity challenges.

The power utility said the problem affected its electricity token vending system as well as the customer registration exercise.

“Our valued customers

“Please be advised that our customer registration and electricity token vending systems are currently out of service due to connectivity challenges,” said the power utility in a public notice.

Apparently, Zimbabwe has in some cases encountered internet challenges, the problem usually attributed to the current power crisis in the country.

The power cuts not only keep people in the dark but also cause a serious problem for internet (fibre) providers and users.

Additionally, it also has an impact on our cellphone signal.

Mobile network operators say load shedding gives them little time to charge the backup batteries at cell towers.

These batteries generally have a capacity of six to 12 hours, depending on the site category, and require 12 to 18 hours to recharge.
