Zimbabwe’s new Cyber Security Minister has admitted that he doesn’t use social media.
Patrick Chinamasa was appointed on Monday by President Robert Mugabe, who wants the new ministry to clamp down on what his government calls social media abuse.
Chinamasa was reassigned by Mugabe to head a new Cyber Security Ministry.
But now it’s emerged that the former finance minister doesn’t, in fact, use any social media.
He told online news website, TechZim, that several Facebook accounts in his name aren’t his.
Last month Chinamasa blamed social media for triggering panic buying and shortages.
Mugabe’s spokesman George Charamba told state radio that in running the new ministry, Chinamasa is expected to draw from the experiences of countries like Russia and China. – EWN
