The embattled ZANU PF National Political Commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere has said he is being used as a scapegoat by those people who are calling for his ouster, he say they are indeed after President Robert Mugabe himself.
In a press statement released yesterday, Kasukuwere said the allegations that he seek to overthrow Mugabe are baseless and being paddled by people with successionist agendas bent on subverting the party’s one centre of power principle by creating various centres of power.
“The open defiance has been aided by certain regime change elements who are embedded in the media hijacked to become the mouthpiece of a successionist cabal who by their conduct are openly challenging the appointing authority, the President under the disguise of attacking me,” said Kasukuwere.
He said the shenanigans of successionist was mooted soon after the Congress in 2014 upon his appointment as the commissar, a position desired as strategic to their goal of establishing an alternative centre of power.
“The charade by those intent on usurping power from the appointing authority disguised as an attack on my person is now being championed by well known recalcitrant political charlatans and opportunists … who were part of the Rhodesian security apparatus,” read part of Kasukuwere’s statement.
Kasukuwere has been in the firing line, with most provincial party chapters calling for his ouster from both the party and government, he is being blamed for allegedly fanning factionalism by setting up parallel structures in order to take power away from Mugabe.
He is said to be one of the godfathers of the Generation 40 faction that is opposed to Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ascendency to the top in the event that Mugabe calls it quit. Kasukuwere is denying any wrongdoing saying his royalty to Mugabe and party principle of one centre of power remains firm.
