I can’t report for work because I am hungry, female teacher writes note to school head

A female teacher has written a note to a school head indicating that she can’t report for duty because she is hungry.

The unnamed teacher said she was available to come to work that is if someone gives her food.

In response, the school head urged her to write a formal letter to be delivered to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

The school head pledged to personally deliver the letter.

Without giving the name of the teacher or the school head supposedly for fear of exposing them victimisation, the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) posted the note:

“On this Women’s Day a woman teacher clearly articulates that she cannot attend to her duties because she is hungry.

“The school Head asks her to write a formal letter to be handed to
@MoPSEZim. Help us craft a letter for the teacher to share with Head for onward submission.”

Meanwhile, teachers are up in arms with government demanding better working conditions and salaries.

They recently announced a nationwide strike, demanding at least around USD1260 as minimum wage.
