A baby without a head was born in Masvingo last week on Thursday.
This happened at Masvingo General Hospital.
The hospital medical superintended who is a gynaecologist Dr Julius Chirengwa confirmed the incident to reporters indicating the baby was born along with a twin.
Dr Chirengwa said one of the twin had an abnormally big head while the other had no head.
He revealed the headless baby was born at 6:00am, with the other twin being born 6 hours later.
“There was the birth of twins at Masvingo hospital, unfortunately one of the babies was severely deformed. These are abnormalities which can occur once in a while. They are rare cases but they do occur . Like in this case the baby was born without a head,” said Dr Chirengwa.
The doctor went on to say that there are no definitive explanations for this rare occurrence but indicated that it was likely caused by problems that may have occurred while the woman was about 8 weeks pregnant.
The names of the affected couple have not been disclosed for their respect and dignity.
