Harare ranked one of 10 least livable cities worldwide

Harare has been ranked as one of the 10 least livable cities in the world in a report that looks at stability, health care and infrastructure, among other social and economic factors.

According to the latest Economist Global Livability Index, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) Zimbabwe’s capital ranks a lowly 133 out of 140 cities.

The EIU’s liveability ranking and overview quantifies the challenges that might be presented to an individual’s lifestyle in 140 cities worldwide.

Each city is assigned a score for over 30 qualitative and quantitative factors across five broad categories of stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the covid-19 pandemic has also affected liveability.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a heavy toll on global liveability,” the EIU said.

Liveable cities have been described as those that are inclusive, with low levels of poverty.

These cities promote equality of access and opportunity between people from different sections of society.
