Harare Mayor Hebert Gomba to appear in court today on perjury allegations

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed that Herbert Gomba, former Harare Municipality Mayor, handed himself to the police on 14/03/22 in the company of his lawyers and is now in police custody.

He will appear in court on 16 March 2022 (today) for perjury & contravening section 37(2)(e) of the Electoral Act Chapter 2:13.

Gomba was recently rumoured to have had gone missing, with fears that he could have been abducted.

The Zimbabwean government has over the years been accused of using state security agents to abduct its critics and opposition party members.

However, the government vehemently denies the allegations.
