Gukurahundi Activist Arrested over Stolen Property

National police authorities have confirmed the arrests of outspoken journalist-cum-activist, Zenzele Ndebele, and his accomplice Helfer Nkomo.

The duo was arrested Monday this week.

“On 24/10/22, Police in Bulawayo acted on a tip and arrested Zenzele Ndebele (44) and Helfer Nkomo (35) for possession of property suspected to be stolen. Police recovered two South African registered vehicles, a white Toyota Fortuner and a Toyota Raider, reportedly brought into the country on a temporary import permit. The suspects failed to produce the necessary documents for the importation of the two vehicles,” the police wrote on Twitter.

Ndebele is popular for his radical stance on the Gukurahundi ethnic atrocities of the early 80s in which the North Korean-trained 5th Brigade engaged in a reign of terror- butchering innocent civilians in the predominantly Ndebele-speaking Matabeleland and Midlands Province.

In another case, ZRP Mwenezi recovered an Isuzu single cab reportedly stolen through a robbery on 15/10/22 in Bulawayo. Police say the car was abandoned in a bush area at village 1, Mariot, Mwenezi, with keys on the ignition port.
