The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has introduced a grain swap programme for farmers in the country’s drier regions who grow small grains that are more drought-tolerant such as sorghum, millet and rapoko.
Under this scheme, farmers can deliver their small grain produce to the GMB and receive maize in return.
Small grain are principally grown in the country’s drier region because they are drought resistant.
GMB is the country’s leading grain trade and Marketing Company which was established in 1931 as the Maize Control Board with a responsibility to accord local maize producers their fair share of the local and export markets and also to provide them with a guaranteed outlet for their excess maize.
