George Charamba distances VP Chiwenga from letter condemning Geza demos

President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba has distanced Vice President Constantino Chiwenga from a statement denouncing war veteran Blessed Geza’s demonstration announcement.

The letter printed on government letterhead purportedly from Chiwenga surfaced online warning people against taking part in demonstrations called for by Geza.

However, Charamba through one of his X handles @jamwanda said the statement is not from Chiwenga,

“ABUSE OF GOVERNMENT STATIONERY: KINDLY NOTE THAT THE MESSAGE BELOW, HOWEVER WELL-INTENTIONED, HAS BEEN PASTED ON GOVERNMENT STATIONERY, WITHOUT THE KNOWLEDGE, INVOLVEMENT OR SANCTION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PRESIDENTIAL COMMUNICATIONS, TO WHICH THE ORIGINAL STATIONERY BELONGS.

“BONA FIDE MESSAGES FROM SINCERE SOURCES NEVER FORGE OR FRAUDULENTLY ABUSE GOVERNMENT STATIONERY TO REDEEM THEMSELVES. WE REGARD SUCH A SEEMINGLY WELL-MEANT MESSAGING ACT AS A THIN END OF THE WEDGE; LEFT UNCHALLENGED, THE NEXT ACT IS DOWNRIGHT CRIMINALITY.

“ALL GENUINE STATEMENTS WHICH ARE TRACEABLE TO THE PRESIDENCY, BEAR SECURITY FEATURES OF THE DEPARTMENT, AND GENUINE SIGNATURES OF AUTHOR(S) CONCERNED,” said Charamba.
