A Harare man reportedly tried to commit suicide accusing his wife of emotional abuse after taking a maid as second wife.Arthur Urayayi reportedly accused Gracious Chingamahiya of harassing and insulting him over his second wife.
This came to light at Harare civil court where Gracious was seeking a protection order against Kudakwashe claiming that he threatened to evict her from their matrimonial home.”Yes I wanted to kill myself because I can no longer stand the insults from Gracious because I married another woman.
“I consulted her about my interest in having another wife and she agreed but I am surprised she is now denying.
“She does not want us to solve our issues amicably and peacefully,” he said.
Gracious made her claims:
Kudakwashe used our matrimonial home with a maid without my consent.
“He threatens to sell our house to pay lobola for his new wife.
“I cannot stand the fact that he wants to marry a maid after 20 years that I spent with him.
“He never told me about marrying another wife.I caught our next door maid with his picture on her WhatsApp profile and later he announced her as his second wife at my house.
“Each time we engage in an argument he attempts to kill himself in my house,” she said.
Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa, who presided over the matter, granted a protection order in Gracious’ favour. She also advised Kudakwashe to man up and control his self.
