The Minister of Finance and Economic Development Mthuli Ncube has met with Akunna Cook, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs in the US State Department, DC where they discussed a number of things focusing on economic reforms, electoral reforms, progress on ZDERA Act, SDR usage, debt arrears, and state of relations among other things.
“Today I held discussions with Akunna Cook, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs in the US State Department, DC.
“We covered economic reforms, electoral reforms, progress on ZDERA Act, SDR usage, debt arrears, and state of relations,” said Ncube.
Meanwhile, the Finance Minister also held discussions with the World Bank Vice President for East and Southern Africa, Dr Hafez Ghanem, and his team, which focussed on financial support for food security, green energy, social protection, education sector support, and analytics.
He described the meeting as very positive.
Apparently, the US government implemented the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economy Recovery Act (ZDERA) which is the targeted sanctions program in 2003 as a result of the actions and policies of certain members of the Government of Zimbabwe and other persons undermining democratic institutions and processes in Zimbabwe.
