The Lufthansa/ Eurowings flight has jetted into Victoria Falls this morning, the first direct passenger flight between Zimbabwe and Europe since Air Zimbabwe stopped its London flights in December 2011.
British Airways pulled out in 2007 and Lufthansa much earlier in 1998.
The three-times-a-week flights between Victoria Falls and Frankfurt, with stop in Windhoek, will be undertaken by Lufthansa’s new leisure-based long-haul subsidiary, Eurowings Discover.
Flights every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday set to boost Victoria Falls’ tourist arrivals.
Deutsche Lufthansa AG, commonly shortened to Lufthansa, is Germany’s flag carrier and the country’s largest airline.
When combined with its subsidiaries, it is the second-largest airline in Europe in terms of passengers carried.
Meanwhile, Eurowings is the Lufthansa Group’s low-cost airline and, as such, part of the world’s largest aviation group.
Eurowings has a current fleet of 139 aircraft and specialises in low-cost direct flights within Europe.
