President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa says the problem of bullying in schools should end immediately or else ‘drastic’ measures would be taken.
Addressing magnitudes of people who attended a field day he hosted at his Pricabe farm in Kwekwe on Saturday, Mnangagwa said it sad that school children killing each.
“The bullying in schools should stop forthwith. I have heard of kids and gangs killing each other,” he said.
Mnangagwa added that his administration will deal with the culprits including school authorities who entertain bullying.
“We will deal with this issue, including school authorities who are found wanting. We will deal with them,” he added.
His comments comes after a student at a Bulawayo school was stabbed to death in a case of bullying.
Apparently, a 2017 study by Kudenga Mugove a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the Zimbabwe Open University identified the main causes of bullying in boarding schools were lack of school rules and implementation of rules that deter bullying, influence of movies and films that show bullies as heroes watched by boarding school children, home background that encouraged bullying as a way of solving problems or did not discourage bullying, influence of peers who considered perpetrators of bullying behaviours as heroes and attention seeking behaviours of bullies.
