The accident occurred at around 8:30pm yesterday night.

National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said 20 of the people who were on the bus are unaccounted for.

She said by 9:00am there was still too much heat emanating from the burnt down bus shell hence police are yet to remove the remains of the deceased.

She is appealing to relatives who had their relatives on the South African bus to go to Mvuma Police Station.

A couple who live a few meters from where the accident occurred Mr  Edmore and Mrs Laiza Mlambo said they rushed to the scene after they heard a loud noise which emanated from the collision.

They (the couple) however said loud screams could be heard from trapped passengers who were engulfed in the flames.

According to eye witnesses, the haulage truck encroached onto the oncoming traffic lane while trying to overtake.

The injured were taken to Mvuma Hospital while some were ferried to Harare Hospital.

 Erlier on Zimnews reported just after the crash..;

A deadly road accident has claimed lives of more than 30 passengers who were travelling from Zimbabwe to South Africa in  Proliner Bus last night, 5th of April.

According to sources, the coach sideswiped a haulage truck and caught fire at Nyamatikiti River near Chaka.

Most of the victims were burnt beyond recognition.

The bus had over 60 passengers on board, while the truck was laden with tyres when tragedy struck.

The accident took place around 8pm and by midnight the bus shell was still smouldering, with bodies inside.

Witnesses said more than 15 passengers managed to escape through the windows.

The injured were rushed to Mvuma District Hospital and Driefontein Mission Hospital.

By late last night, police were still guarding the shell of the bus, with the charred remains of some of the passengers.

Police were also controlling traffic as the burning vehicles blocked the road.

Zimbabwe’s roads are now a death trap.

Potholes make it worse when big truck pass in opposite directions with little space to manoeuvre. zwnews.com
