Dire transport situation in Harare as pseudo-Zupco dumps govt

The transport situation in Harare is far from returning to normalcy after pseudo-Zupco buses contracted by government are fast dumping it alleging failure to comply with agreed terms, leaving thousands stranded in the city over the past three days.

Passengers are being forced to board open trucks and lorries exposing them to the harsh weather conditions in the morning and after hours.

The situation if not addressed will likely lead to another wave of price hikes as most commuter omnibus had reduced fees feeling the heat of the pseudo-Zupco buses.

Zw News crew carried a snap survey over the past three days and witnessed residents from most high density suburbs including Tafara-Mabvuku, Highfields and Kuwadzana, stranded to get transport to go to work forcing them to board open trucks as the usual Zupco buses were off road.

No Zimbabwean wants that route again as it quickly reminds them of 2008 arguably one of the worst years post independence when people would stampede for open trucks which had become the major source of transportation.

Meanwhile, government’s buses sought from Belarus remain a mystery after president Emmerson Mnangagwa recently visited the country and promised that their delivery was imminent.
