CONGO GOLD NEWS: A viral video has emerged online showing villagers in eastern Congo gathering and digging in what has been called The Mountain of Gold in Congo.
In the viral video circulating, the villagers could bee seen digging the mountain “containing the gold deposits” and taking the soil back to their homes in order to wash the dirt and extract gold.
According to multiple reports, the soil at the site is 60% to 90% gold.

An initial 30-second video shows hundreds of villagers digging for gold on top of a mountain. Another video shows them separating the gold from the earth.
BBC pidgin news last week reported that the Congolese government has sent police to secure the site.
Where is the “mountain of gold”?
A BBC journalist in DRC said the mountain is located in Brava village, 35km north of Bukavu. According to the same source, the government has deployed police to restore order and recover the gold that the villagers have dug.
The Democratic Republic of Congo has rich reserves of minerals like cobalt, diamonds, copper, and gold.
The gold rush in Congo’s South Kivu province has driven authorities to ban mining there until more oversight is established, the provincial mines minister said on Thursday.
The discovery of gold-rich ore in Luhihi in late February brought throngs of diggers to the site, South Kivu Mines Minister Venant Burume Muhigirwa said, putting pressure on the small village around 50 km (30 miles) from the provincial capital, Bukavu.
Muhigirwa said the mining suspension would allow authorities to identify the miners and ensure they are properly registered with artisanal mining regulators.
