Detained Citizens Coalition for Change CCC legislators, Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole have applied for bail at the High Court, after Harare magistrate denied them the freedom to be tried from home.
In denying the two MPs bail, deputy Chief Magistrate Gibson Mandaza said they are a threat to public security.
However, through the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) advocates Sikhala and Sithole say the magistrate erred in denying them bail.
“We have filed an appeal at High Court against Deputy Chief Magistrate Mandaza’s denial of bail to Job Sikhala & Godfrey Sithole. In the appeal, we stated that Deputy Chief Magistrate Mandaza grossly erred & misdirected himself in refusing to release the 2 MPs on bail,” said their lawyers.
The two were arrested after violent scenes rocked slain CCC member Moreblessing Ali’s memorial service and were charged with inciting public violence.
