The High Court has dismissed a chamber application by the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) calling on the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to release the electronic voters’roll.
In trashing the application, Judge Katiyo raised security concerns, saying ZEC is mandated to safeguard the voter’s roll, especially electronic one as it can be tampered with “in this age of social media.”
At one point ZEC also refused to issue the electronic voters’ roll to think tank Election Resource Network.
This case arose after the ZEC refused to provide the think tank with an electronic copy of the national voters’ roll, demanding that the elections watchdog pay US$187 238, as the cost of providing the electoral register.
