Civil service unions petition gvt over police deployment at PSMAS offices

Trade Unions representing civil servants have handed their petition to the Public Service Commission (PSC) denouncing the deployment of police to stop Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) AGM and telling PSC to stop ill-advised and ill-disguised violent campaign to control PSMAS.

Zimbabwe Conferdaration of Public Service Trade Unions Goodwill Taderera told Zimlive that the public sector unions’ are not happy after police were deployed to block a PSMAS AGM last week, and today stopping a planned march to handover a petition.

Apparently, Public Service Association boss Cecilia Alexander spoke to the same publication accusing the government of “trying to induce a problem, trying to manufacture a problem so that at the end of the day they will say PSMAS has failed” and take it over.

Unions fear PSMAS could be offloaded to Kudakwashe Tagwirei.

PSMAS was formed in 1930 as the Public Service Medical Aid, the Society went through various stages of growth, building up from one branch to the next, all in an effort to offer the best medical aid services to the growing membership.

After independence, medical aid was introduced as a benefit for many employees, with the private sector and individuals later also being allowed to join. Its branch network now stretches across the country covering 17 cities and towns.

The Society is rich with expertise and has stood the test of time and still continues to go further in bringing value to its members.

For the past nine decades PSMAS has built a rich heritage and solid foundation in the healthcare sector in Zimbabwe as well as having a deeper understanding of its various stakeholders.
