CHIWENGA
Margaret Machekabuwe, sister to Vice-President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, has died.
She was 63. VP Chiwenga received news of his sister’s death in Marondera while in an Zanu-PF Extraordinary Politburo meeting yesterday.
“She complained of shortness of breath while watching television and we immediately instructed a driver to take her to hospital in Marondera. Unfortunately, she did not make it and we are all in a state of shock at such a sudden death.
“Her husband was with the Air Force of Zimbabwe, and he died in a tragic traffic accident in 1995 along with their first born daughter. So now there are two daughters left, one son, and two grandchildren,” VP Chiwenga said.
The Vice-President said his sister participated in the Second Chimurenga as a chimbwido right to the very end of the liberation war, operating in areas such as Hwedza and others, working with the likes of Lieutanant-General (Retired) Mike Nyambuya.
VP Chiwenga said mourners were gathered at Plot 14 Machekabuwe Farm in Marondera, along Ruzawi Road, and burial details would be announced in due course.
