Chinotimba loses Zanu PF primaries to Ngoni Mudekunye

Chinotimba had accused Mnangagwa of attempting to remove him from his position by backing Mudekunye

Ngoni Mudekunye has won the primary elections for Buhera South MP on a ZANU PF ticket, defeating the incumbent Joseph Chinotimba by a large margin.

Chinotimba, a war veteran and trade unionist who has held the seat since 2013, received only 1,356 votes compared to Mudekunye’s 7,890 votes and F. Chimbare’s 2,870 votes.

In May 2022, Chinotimba faced criticism for referring to President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa without his full title, which is customary for ZANU PF officials and members.

Chinotimba had accused Mnangagwa of attempting to remove him from his position by backing Mudekunye.

However, he later apologized to the president after facing pressure to do so. As a result of his defeat in the primary elections, Chinotimba will not be able to contest the upcoming elections as a ZANU PF candidate for Buhera South.
