CHEGUTU: 1 killed, 7 injured in lorry accident

One person was killed while seven others were injured after the driver of a lorry they were travelling in lost control of the vehicle before it rammed onto a tree 20 km from Chegutu along the Chakari-Chegutu road late afternoon yesterday.

According to an eyewitness, the lorry, which was travelling towards Chegutu tried to avoid collision with an oncoming commuter omnibus resulting in the driver losing control of the vehicle before steering it to the right side where it rammed onto a tree while in high speed.

A passenger who was seated just behind the driver, died on the spot while other passengers and the driver are said to have sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Chegutu hospital.

Paramedics arrived at the scene later and retrieved the trapped body of the deceased.
