MDC president Nelson Chamisa told party members that it is high time that he takes off the late founding president Morgan Tsvangirai’s jacket and wear his own.
Chamisa made the remarks during an impromptu appearance at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera on Friday afternoon where Mashonaland East Provincial elections were being conducted.
In a short address to the excited party members, Chamisa said:
This is not a rally, but I just said let me pass and see what is happening. Thank you for the non-violence (process), thank you for the peace.
I have no doubt that the voting process you have just done reflects your will. Let’s choose leadership that is capable. I was putting on Tsvangirai’s jacket until Congress. But after that, you are going to give me mine.
Meanwhile, there are high chances that Chamisa will become the party’s president for the next five years without being contested.
