Chamisa Salutes Emmanuel Macron Over Electoral Victory

Zimbabwe’s main opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) party leader, Nelson Chamisa, has sent his congratulatory message to Emmanuel Macron following the youthful French president’s electoral triumph during the weekend polls.

Over the weekend, the 44-year old Macron got a fresh five-year mandate to preside over the European superpower after polling 58.55% of the vote, beating rival Ms Le Pen, 53, who garnered 41.45%.

And, Chamisa joined various political leaders to congratulate Macron following his victory, describing the French leader’s triumph as ‘an inspiration and reminder to all the young people across the world’ that they are capable of winning elections.

The CCC leader took to his official Twitter handle to congratulate Macron, posting:

“Congratulations to the 44 year-old @EmmanuelMacron on this historic re-election. This is such an inspiration and reminder to all the young people across the world that it’s doable!. Going forward, France is a strategic ally and a key player in addressing global challenges.”

Chamisa’s message followed that of his 2018 poll nemesis, and Zimbabwe leader Emmerson Mnangagwa who described Macron as his ‘good friend’.

“Congratulations to my good friend President @EmmanuelMacron on your historic re-election. The future is bright for French Zimbabwean relations!” tweeted Mnangagwa.

The centrist leader, who won by a wider-than-expected margin against Le Pen, has promised to unite France and be ‘a president for all’.

Addressing jubilant supporters who congregated at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, Macron, who has already made history by becoming the first sitting president in 20 years to be re-elected in France, said his government would have to “answer their choice to refuse to choose”.
