Chamisa not holding congress until after 2023 polls to ‘curb infiltration’

Zimbabwe’s main opposition party, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) is not going for its inaugural congress until after the 2023 harmonised elections.

Party insiders say the party there will be no Congress until after 2023 elections, saying the move would help curb infiltration by ruling party elements using proxies at a Congress.

They say if ZANU-PF has not held a Congress since 2017, there is no hurry for a few months old party to hold one.

This comes after Professor Jonathan Moyo had weighed in on the impending main opposition party elective Congress saying a party that does not hold a Congress beforea general election is less likely to win political power.

Moyo statements comes during a wide raging debate on whether the newly formed CCC led by Chamisa should go for a congress or not before the 2023 elections.
