Chamisa calls for total dollarisation, urges gvt to pay civil servants in US$

Citizens Coalition for Change president Nelson Chamisa has urged the government to dollarise in line with the demands of the prevailing economic environment.

“Restore workers’ dignity. Government incentive measures to partially pay civil servants in USD is too little to guarantee a decent wage.

“Pay full salaries in USD. Just fully dollarize. The market is now effectively dollarised. Our Citizens government will make workers happy again,” he says.

The ruling party ZANU-PF recently accused Chamisa of inciting the teachers to demand a living wage.

Meanwhile, Chamisa’s sentiments on dollarisation have also been echoed by renowned world economist Steve Hanke.

Hanke is on record imploring the Zimbabwean government to dollarise as a matter of urgency in order to redeem the country’s economy.
