In a move aimed at reducing stock theft across the country, a senior official at Tel One recently said sooner rather than later farmers will be using GPS system as an easy way of tracking their livestock in the vent that they are stolen.
The firm’s director responsible for Infrastructure and Wholesale, Engineer Lawrence Nkala speaking at launch of Bulawayo-Beitbridge Fibre project recently held at Esikoveni Training Centre said farmers will insert a chip into their livestock that will be linked to the GPS tracking system.
“We have been reading in the papers that farmers are losing their cattle through stock theft and this will be a thing of the past as it will be easy for a farmer to locate the whereabouts of his or her animals before they go astray,” said the engineer.
This phenomenon is not new as it is currently being used by our neighbouring country, Botswana.
