In a major shake-up, defending champions Pyramids FC have been eliminated, ensuring a new winner will be crowned this year. The Egyptian side were knocked out by AS FAR Rabat, while continental giants Al Ahly also bowed out after a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Esperance in Cairo — ending their hopes of a record-extending 13th title.
Mamelodi Sundowns secured their place in the final four with a strong showing against Stade Malien and will now face Esperance in a high-stakes rematch of last season’s quarter-final encounter.
The other semi-final promises a fierce North African battle, as AS FAR Rabat take on Moroccan rivals RS Berkane, who advanced after overcoming Al-Hilal.
CAF is expected to announce the official dates and venues for the semi-finals in due course.
