UK sends additional £40 Million to Zimbabwe

The United Kingdom Department for International Development (DfID) announced an additional £40 million for Zimbabwe drought relief efforts..

UK representative, Ms Annabel Gerry said her government was sending more money and the £40 million will cover what could not be done by £515.6 million that has already been send.

Over 4.1 million people will get food parcels around the peak period of El Nino between January and March 2017.

The Senior Principal Director in the Office of President Mugabe and Cabinet, Mr Ozias Hove has thanked the British government for leading the drought response initiatives.

The Zimbabwe government has also launched a nationwide food-for-work programme so that families will contribute to community development as they receive food relief.

The British government has come under fire from Zimbabwe opposition groups for their soft stance on Mugabe with many believing they are now working with Harare to facilitate a smooth transition of power from Mugabe to his top aide, Emmerson D Mnangagwa.

Mugabe is now expected retire any time from now.
