BREAKING NEWS: State agents besiege Hopewell Chin’ono’s residence, harass workers

As the clock ticks towards the planned public protests slated for July 31, suspected state agents have reportedly besieged the residence of award-winning Zimbabwean journalist and filmmaker Hopewell Chin’ono.

According to Chin’ono, who has been playing a leading role in rallying Zimbabweans to rise up and speak with one voice on July 31, by taking to the streets, the state agents have been harassing his workers.

“They are breaking into my home. Alert the world!” Chin’ono said.

Zimbabwe is on the brink of political turbulence after its nationals mobilised themselves using social media, especially the micro-blogging Twitter, to set July 31 2020, as the day for public protests against the long-ruling Zanu PF Government of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

In recent weeks, state security agents have reportedly been clamping down on opposition activists amid reports that the Mnangagwa regime has been jittery after being caught in sixes and sevens on how to handle dissent.
