Boyfriend commits suicide over Olinda’s child

Charles Mabhena

A Kuwadzana Extension man committed suicide recently, by hanging himself at his girlfriend’s house in Epworth after she had disclosed that he was not the father of her child.

The residents of Overspill in Epworth were left shell shocked when Aaron Nyamungondo of Kuwadzana Extension hanged himself at the home of Olinda Bundu in Epworth after she had disclosed to him that the child he thinks to have fathered with her was not his.

Bundu’s neighbours told zwnews.com over the weekend that the news going round was that she and Nyamungondo were lovers, since Bundu had been a divorcee. But Bundu later told her boyfriend that the father to her daughter was her husband, whom she had since made amends with and were together again. This didn’t go down well with Nyamungondo.

Bundu is said to have divorced her husband Ruvengo Mutunga who is based in South Africa in 2016, but she was already pregnant then, and gave birth early this year, so when she hooked up with Nyamungondo he thought it was he who had made her pregnant.

When he learnt he was not the father, Nyamungondo then texted his girlfriend threatening that he was going to take his life over it.

When this news crew visited Bundu’s place she was said to be not around at that time, but, was shown the tree where Nyamungondo has hanged himself on. Maidei Chitengi, a resident who claim to know Bundu said the incident happened on a Wednesday, residents nearby saw him hanging and phoned the police.

Meanwhile, in another incident that also had something to do with love matters, a church pastor Richard Nhika recently, filmed himself taking his own life by drinking poison. The video went viral on social media.

Be that as it may, the Zimbabwe Republic Police is on record expressing grave concern over acts of suicide, urging people to always seek advice from others in the case of a misunderstanding rather resorting to taking their own lives.
