Boxing Day road accidents claim 5 lives

5 people were killed in Zimbabwe’s roads on boxing day in separate accidents across the country, Zimbabwe police have reported.

In a statement to reporters, police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said speeding remains the main cause of the fatal road traffic accidents that were recorded.

He said no fatal road accidents were recorded yesterday (Monday) on the country’s highways.

Nyathi also said police recorded 63 road traffic accidents compared to 59 the same day last year during which 13 people were injured compared to 42 in 2015.

He encouraged motorists to avoid speeding and to be on the lookout of pedestrians as they travel either on highways or feeder roads and also avoid travelling at night as visibility is poor and observation is likely to be affected.
