THREE people died on the spot while two escaped with minor injuries from a head on collision along the Beitbridge-Masvingo highway, police confirmed yesterday.
Another five were injured in separate road accidents along the same highway.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident which occurred yesterday at the 86km peg along the Beitbridge-Masvingo highway.
“I can confirm an accident which happened at the 86km peg along the Beitbridge-Masvingo highway which claimed three lives when a KIA car which was trying to avoid hitting goats that were on the road encroached onto the oncoming vehicle lane and collided head-on with a haulage truck.
“The KIA had South African registration numbers and it got trapped under the haulage truck, killing all three occupants.
“We have gathered that the two passengers in the haulage truck were Zambians and we are still trying to find out if the deceased passengers from the Kia are from Zimbabwe or South Africa,” he said.
