A Harare Magistrate has chided a man who is demanding maintenance from his wife whom he accuses of dumping him without notice to stop making silly demands and behave like an adult.
Appearing before Magistrate Stella Nazombee, AJerkison Masambiti claimed that his wife Older Masambaiti, had dumped him without notice, and was now cohabiting with another man and demanded that she compensate him for deserting him.
” I married my wife older Masambiti and we wedded, but all of a sudden she just said she was no longer interested in our relationship. She left our matrimonial home without even saying goodbye and right now she is with another man, said Jerkison.
In response, Older refuted Jerkison’s claims and stated that she was, in fact, the one who required maintenance since she was the one who had the custody of their three children.
” We have three children and I am the one who is staying with them and meeting all their needs. I never divorced him, but I just moved out of the house because he was abusing me and insulting me in front of the children.
The court heard that Jerkison’s suspicions started when they were still staying together because she was arriving late from work, which prompted him to think that she was having an affair.
” I cannot offer him anything because I am the one taking care of our children. He is also married and is looking after his family. I don’t even know why he is dragging me to court,” she said
Magistrate Stella Nazombe dismissed the application and sternly told the two, to behave as adults.
