Heavily armed men arrested in Gweru

Gweru: CID detectives have ended the reign of terror of 3 heavily armed bandits who have been on a mercililess robbing spree over the last three months.

Police arrested the thugs after a tip off from one of their jilted girlfriends and recovered five 303 rifles and two pistols.

The armed robbers have been terrorising Gweru for the past three months targeting gold and chrome miners and other business people whom they would suspect have cash at home.

US$6000 that was stolen from a gold miner in Shurugwi was recovered in Gokwe after it was given to a sister of one of the robbers for safe keeping.

US$2000 that was stolen from a miner in Gweru was used to buy furniture and clothes for their girlfriends who reside in Mtapa section seven.

The property bought from robbery proceeds has since been seized by the CID from the suspects   girlfriends Jane Tamahachi, 25,  and Ernet Kaisa, 24, who said they were not aware they were dating armed robbers.

A family of a chrome miner Sympton Sihwahwa relieved their Tuesday horror when the three robbers stormed into their house in Windsor Park and tied everyone using cellphone chargers including an eight year old boy before abducting Mr Siwawa who managed to escape when they tried to rob another family in the same suburb.

Gweru CID won praises from the Gweru community for arresting the notorious robbers.

After their arrest the three armed robbers were taken to Masvingo were they are assisting police with their investigations.
