Nine people are feared dead after a mine shaft collapsed in Mazowe, former first lady Grace Mugabe’s hunting ground.
The illegal miners perished on Tuesday last night at Jumbo Mine, where there is a gold rush in Mazowe.
Police confirmed the incident but said investigations are still underway as there are fears that more people could be trapped.
However, there are conflicting figures on the deceased’s number with police officials saying about four people had died while locals at the mine insist that nine perished.
According to reports from the mine, the mine shaft collapsed late during the day resulting in the perishing of the illegal miners who had no protective mining gear.
Finer details of the incident were still sketchy by last night as officials were still gathering facts.
