In a dramatic twist which may prove embarrassing for the government, Zanu-PF Youth leaders who were behind the acts of violence during the #ShutdownZimbabwe Protests were sent to prison for between 5-7 years for burning down a ZUPCO bus.
The convicted felons are Benson Bhobho, Zanu PF youth league chairperson for Ward 40 in Whitecliff together with members of his executive, Charles Bengeza, Shylock Chihuri, Emmanuel Chari, Cassim Muzhingi.
They were also punished for torching a car belonging to Webster Shamu’s wife.
Webster Shamu is a Zanu PF member of parliament in Chegutu who served as Minister in different portfolios.
The six appeared before Harare Magistrate Mr Elijah Makomo who sentenced them to five years each in prison except for the ring leader only identified as Chari who was separately slapped with seven years.
Initially the convicts were being charged jointly with two other accused persons who have been acquitted.
Magistrate cited lack of credible evidence to nail the duo hence granting them freedom.
