3 arrested as police recover 550kg copper conductors hidden in kombi

On 12/01/20 at 0300 hours, Police manning a roadblock at 104 km peg Hre-Byo road, Chegutu stopped a white Nissan Caravan commuter omnibus registration number AEU 3260. The driver was instructed to pull off the road but attempted to flee.

Police fired one warning shot and he stopped. 2 of the 4 occupants escaped. Police searched the vehicle and recovered 11 sacks with different rolls of copper conductors weighing approximately 550kg stashed under the seats of the vehicle.

Obert Mugati (33) and Tendai Sekai Ndimi (33) were then arrested and it was established that they had stolen the conductors from Unki Mine. Investigations are in progress to arrest the outstanding accused persons. Meanwhile the accused persons will appear in court soon.
