Luckmore Chifumuro (18) and another unidentified inmate recently escaped from Mwenezi Satellite Prison only for Chifumuro to be rearrested after being found hidding at his relative’s homestead, the Mwenezi Magistrate Court heard last week.
Chifumuro resides at Jonas village under Chief Maranda and when he escaped, he was doing time for theft. He had earlier disappeared before finishing the initial community service sentence.
Last month, magistrate Honest Musiiwa sentenced him to seven months imprisonment for unlawful entry but he escaped a few weeks later alongside the other inmate who had not been caught by the time of writing.
Chifumuro pleaded guilty to the charge of escaping from lawful custody and was given an effective 12 months in prison.
Asked by the magistrate why he committed the offence, Chifumuro said he broke away after being influenced by the other fugitive whom he parted ways with after the escape. tell zim
