The cause of the accident could not be immediately established, but it is said the driver failed to negotiate the road.

According to pictures already making rounds on social media the bus was captured upside down.

Ambulance teams were also at the ground rescuing passengers.

However, people who spoke to this publication expressed serious concern over the state of bonded zupco buses.

“This is a sad development as people are said to have died. Government should also set conditions to bond zupco buses as most of these are past their lifespan,” said Tafadzwa Nginde.

Revesai Kahache said while bonding zupco buses is a welcome development to hard pressed zimbabweans, but safety should also be prioritised.

“Safety should come first above all things, its pointless to endanger lives for the sake of cheap fares. There should be at least a minimum conditions set for bonded zupco buses,” he said.

Most zupco buses plying urban routes are death traps, as they fall short of the minimum road safety standards.
